Tips for Choosing Patio Furniture

Choosing patio furniture can be a fun process, there are lots of different types of patio furniture available with lots of choice. With the right kind of outdoor patio furniture, you can make your patio a great area for gathering round, relaxing and even eating al-fresco. You will find furniture which has been specially designed for outdoor living which come in many different and wide variety of materials, styles and of course price. When you are shopping around, there are several things you should look out for. For instance, is your patio open or is it covered? Will you be entertaining outdoors a lot or a little? How many people will need seating on your patio? Armed with answers to these questions, you will be able to select the ideal furniture for your circumstances.

Some popular materials for outdoor furniture can include aluminum, plastic, iron, wood and also wicker. Plastic is a common material and the least expensive material used in outdoor patio furniture. Plastic chairs and tables come in many sizes and colours. Plastic is cheap and will last a long time in the outdoor environment. The less good thing is that it is not the most attractive and not the most durable. Over time it can warp and crack as it is subject to the elements. You may want to look for weatherproof metal furniture instead. This would be more expensive but not overly so. Some people prefer the look of metal over plastic and it will last longer and hold up better as time passes.

Wrought iron is another material used in outdoor furniture. It can be expensive and there are advantages and disadvantages to it. Wrought iron will normally come with some form of weather proofing but it will still need maintenance over time to prevent rust and discolouration. However, if it is cared for carefully, you will find it will last for years as it is heavy and sturdy. Wrought iron furniture also often have a sophisticated look. Another popular material is wicker. Wicker is light and breezy and needs to be kept safe from the external elements. It may therefore not be so suitable for an unprotected outdoor area. You may also want to use weatherproof of weather treated wood for covered and uncovered areas. Wood of course provides a rustic feel that is in keeping with the outdoor environment.

Care and maintenance of your patio furniture is important whatever type of material you choose. You should follow the manufacturer's instructions to ensure it last for years to come. Unless instructed, you should avoid any harsh chemical cleaners. You should try and always keep your furniture covered and protected. This way you will keep your outdoor furniture in good condition for as long as possible. If your patio furniture has seat cushions, remember to remove them and store them in a dry location after the outdoor season. Also try and keep the rest of the furniture covered and dry if possible.
