How to Choose Patio Furniture Fabric

Your own patio should be a place where you can relax with your family and friends and also enjoy an outdoor meal. If you have patio furniture, no doubt you have thought about the items a great deal before purchasing. Whatever material your patio furniture is made of, whether it is plastic, wicker, wood or metal, you should consider patio furniture fabric as a finishing touch. Your outdoor patio chairs will need some soft cushions to provide comfortable seating. You will also want a large umbrella to protect yourself from the sun.

The fabric you use for your patio should be suitable for outdoors. You will want something durable, with weather and UV resistant properties. Luckily there are lots of outdoor fabrics that have these qualities. Does this mean you should leave your cushions and umbrella out in a rainstorm? Probably not. But if you were unable to bring them inside and they did get wet, it wouldn't be a catastrophe. You can, of course, feel free to leave your fabric out in the sun if it is UV protected. Without this type of protection, the fabric may become discolored. With this type of protection, the fabric will stay vibrant and true.

As for color, you may want to choose between solid colors or a variety of prints. With solids, there are choices in every color of the rainbow and beyond. Some people like a soft neutral, while others prefer something more vibrant. For a natural look that matches everything, go for shades like cream, beige, tan or brown. For a bright tropical look, try daring colors like fuschia or orange. If you like prints, you'll find lots of choices. There are dots, stripes, florals and abstract prints for every possible preference. Some of the most popular prints these days include retro florals, country gingham and island inspired palm trees.

There are lots of choices available when it comes to weather-safe outdoor fabric. You'll find that many patio sets come complete with a coordinating umbrella and cushions. If you do need to purchase these items separately, you can do so most anywhere that sells home decor and patio accessories. There are also a variety of online stores that offer lots of great fabrics. If you're handy with a sewing machine, you might even opt to make your own cushions.
